My favorite places to visit around Mendocino!

  • Montgomery Woods
Just 40 minutes from the Farmhouse is a grove of Giant Redwood Trees. In fact the tallest tree is there. You won't believe how beautiful this place is.

    Hiking in State Parks
  • Point Cabrillo Lightstation and Preserve
A beautiful place to stroll along the ocean with views of the lightstation and headland preserve.
  • Russian Gulch
Go on the loop trail at and see the waterfall at the end.
  • MacKerricher State Park
Go tidepooling and meet the local sea lions and their babies.
  • Headlands trail
Walk this beautiful trail all around Mendocino and see the Grey Whales migrating in November and March.
  • Big River
Hike or ride a bike on the haul road or better yet rent a canoe or kayak at the mouth of the river and paddle up the river to visit the wildlife. I do it all the time and it's truly breath-taking.
  • Jughandle State Park
has an ecological staircase that takes you from the ocean to the redwood forest on a trail that passes through the Pygmy Forest.

  • Glass Beach
Ask me and I will tell you the story of Glass Bleach and how it got it's name. You could spend all day picking through the sea glass and pottery on that beach.

  • Cookie Beach
Up the coast close to Westport is a beach with cookie shaped rocks at the low tide. It's a wonderful beach to fly a kite and have a picnic.

    Local Museums
  • Kelly House Historical Museum
tells about the families who founded Mendocino.
  • Ford House Visitor Center
tells about the history of the area from the Native Indians to the logging industry.
